The effect of beetroot juice on the microcirculation in acute hypoxia

THIS STUDY HAS NOW ENDED - THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST

A new Xtreme Everest study, The effect of beetroot juice on the microcirculation in acute hypoxia which is starting soon, is looking for participants.

About the study
The project is an experimental laboratory study that will be conducted within a hypoxic (less oxygen) room. We now aim to obtain measures over 4 hours and assess the effect of dietary beetroot juice (rich in nitrate) supplementation on the efficiency of adaptation to hypoxia. The nitrate in the beetroot juice known to affect the circulation. We wish to know if the consumption of beetroot juice for a short period of time can alter the way the circulation adapts to hypoxia. This information may be relevant to those patients in whom hypoxia is a predominant part of their illness, especially those admitted to an intensive care unit.

The project will be starting in early February and will be based at the the ISEH in central London.
