A new documentary sets to shed light on the Sherpa rebellion against what their role is on the mountain. Sherpas have long been praised for their dedication to helping climbers achieving their dream of reaching the peak, yet their work is often undervalued and underpaid.

In 2013, Everest was the scene of a fight between a group of European climbers and the Sherpas. 60 years previously Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay reached the summit as a team. The documentary crew set out to make a film from the Sherpas point of view in the 2014 climbing season, instead on the 18 April, tragedy struck when a 14 million ton block of ice fell on the climbing route of the Khumbu Icefall killing 16 Sherpas.

The crew found themselves instead filming the devastation and aftermath of this disaster and the drastic reappraisal of the role of the Sherpa in the Everest climbing industry. United in grief and anger, they set out to reclaim their mountain.

The documentary is released on 18 December and will be broadcast globally on Discovery in 2016. There are also two special screenings being held in London (as below) with a Q&A with the producers.
